The choir returned in great voice on 11 May 2024 at the Warkworth Town Hall to perform Joseph Haydn’s beautiful Maria Theresa Mass in front of a near capacity audience. This challenging work included top soloists Elizabeth Mandeno (Soprano) , Alanah Jones (Alto) , Jordan Fonoti-Fuimaono (Tenor) and Miles Timmis (Bass) and was accompanied in superb style by renowned organist, John Wells. The Mass was performed after the concert interval.
The first half comprised of two short choral works by the choir, namely Mozart’s 'Ave Verum Corpus' unaccompanied and Felix Mendelssohn’s 'Verleih uns Frieden' plus four soloist choices and a stirring John Wells organ rendition of 'Grand Choeur in D' by Alexandre Guilmant. The soloists choices were:
Miles Timmis: 'Do not go gentle into that good night' by Dylan Thomas, composer David Hamilton (b.1955).
Jordan Fonoti-Fuimaono: 'En Fermant Les Yeux' from Manon, composer Jules Massenet (1842 - 1912).
Alanah Jones: 'Sposa Son Disprezzata' from Bajazet, composer Antonio Vivaldi (1678 - 1741).
Elizabeth Mandeno: 'Let the Bright Seraphim' from Sampson, composer George F. Handel (1685 - 1759).
The concert was superbly conducted by Ken Leech and the audience’s reaction to the whole event was immense.
